A few quick tips for folding clothes for your kids’ dresser drawers…

Okay, let’s be real for a minute. (I promise to always be, but I needed to make it very clear with this post.)

Kid dresser drawers are one of those things that we need to be able to do, teach, and then like Elsa says, “Let it go.”

Unless you are planning on constantly going into your child’s dresser and update their folding and their drawers, PLEASE do not do this, then you will need to become okay with a bit of a learning curve.

My first tip to organizing kid drawers is easy. It’s teach them how to fold their clothes so they can see all their items in the drawer. If it’s t-shirts, fold them on thirds, or better yet for kids, fold them in half and then half again. As long as the shirt stands up on it’s side and they can see what it is, it works! (See the picture below on how a pajama drawer will look.)

Second, do like items in the drawers. Example- socks and underwear go in the same drawer. Pajamas go in the same drawer. My son has a drawer designated to clothing he will grow into- and yes, he knows this drawer is not one to get clothing out of on the regular. Keep likes together- easy!

Third tip: Put the most frequently used clothing items in the most accessible drawers. Top drawers for socks and underwear, then even ask your child what drawers they would like their clothing in. Sometimes if they feel like they are helping, they will be more likely to keep it organized; there’s a sense of pride there.

Final tip, and this is the HARDEST tip for me. Once you’ve taught them how to keep it organized, let them do it. It’s okay if it’s a hot mess from time to time as long as they can go back and get it right. Eventually they will keep it clean and tidy…. eventually might mean until they are grown adults, but hey, we tried!!
