I LOVE organizing master closets.

I’ll let you in on a little secret. Although I love organizing all spaces, my absolute favorite space to organize is a master closet.

Master closets are always so promising. They usually have good “bones” and are just in need of some guidance and love. The final “reveal” for a master closet is usually very magical for me. I love the before and afters and the extreme joy the client feels when they see what their newly organized closet bring them.

The purge for a master closet is HUGE! I live by the mantra I learned from the very talented Marie Kondo of keeping things that bring you joy. Seriously, think about that. Move away from the whole notion of “does it still fit” and “I have to keep this because I bought it” for just a moment. Imagine walking into a space where everything you see is something that brings you JOY. This is HUGE. I did my master closet this way years ago and I will tell you, it completely changed the vibe of the space. Did everything I kept fit? Nope. Was that okay? Yep. I still had enough clothes that fit to get by with and I also realized holding onto clothes I didn’t love only made me feel more “frumpy” when I was getting ready.

Take the leap; or better yet, let me come help you with the purge. Even if you have an item still wearing it’s tags- that’s okay. That article of clothing brought you joy when you bought it, it did it’s job. If you passing this clothing piece to someone who will wear it and find their own joy with it, then I think you are doing the right thing letting it go.

A few things that make me smile about master closets (when I’m finished with them):

  • Matching, slim velvet hangers. Oh the happiness!

  • Rainbowed clothes. Yep, this is my favorite!

  • Organized and functional clothing storage BESIDES the hanging clothing.

  • Doors that open and nothing falls out! Am I right??

  • Some kind of personal touch- maybe a cute sign, a family photo the client loves…. something sentimental that will make you smile every single day when you are in that closet.

Here’s to happy master closets and making your organizing dreams a reality!!
